I went on a short trip with a my friends a couple of years ago to Rome, Italy. We stayed for 3 nights 4 days near Vatican City.
We went to visit the Vatican Museums where they display famous art and sculptures from Italy (around 20,000 on display). The walls and ceilings were beautifully displayed with magnificent paintings and drawings. It was definitely worth the visit!
While we were visiting the Vatican Museums we found a nice vibrant yellow wall so we took this opportunity to have a mini photoshoot session 😀
We had A LOT of pasta and pizza during our stay which were pretty damn good. My favourite dish was definitely the carbonara which I couldn’t get enough of. The spaghetti in Rome was perfectly al dente.
We wanted to visit St. Peter’s Basilica but the queue to get in was insane! It was around a 3 hour wait to get in so we decided to give it a miss (too hot to queue in the middle of the summer). I would recommend buying a ticket in advance online so you can skip the queue.
That’s it for today! Just one more thing I want to tell you about Rome are the the pickpockets and scammers! There were a lot of scammers trying to get you to buy tickets from them. Make sure to buy your tickets from the attraction itself to avoid being scammed. I also recommend carrying your bags in front of you as my friend got her purse stolen within the first hour of being in Rome! Luckily she had some extra cash hidden in her suitcase so it wasn’t a complete disaster. Just make sure your bag is in your sight and you’ll be fine 😀
A quick and easy recipe for some scrumptious butter cookies!
- 250g butter
- 250g flour
- 70g cornstarch
- 100g sugar
- 2 pinches of salt
- Preheat the oven to 160°C.
- Mix the butter and sugar in a bowl.
- Slowly mix the dry ingredients with the mixture in the bowl.
- Refrigerate the mixture for 30 minutes.
- Take out the mixture from the fridge and mould them into shape.
- Bake in the oven for 16-18 minutes.

Friday – Steak, rice and cabbage&mushroom stir-fry in soy sauce
Onigiri is a Japanese dish which is made from sticky Japanese rice shaped into a triangular shape. People in Japan usually make this for their lunch to take to work or school. You can put in all sorts of toppings into the onigiri such as grilled salmon, pickled plums or tuna! We didn’t have any toppings so we made plain onigiri with nori (Japanese seaweed) wrapped around. We seasoned the rice with sushi rice vinegar.
It’s pretty hard shaping the rice into a triangle and requires some skill (which I did not possess).
Ended up looking like a ball……
At least the nori covered up the rice ball to make it look a bit more appealing 😀

Eggs benedict originates from New York which consists of two halves of an English muffin with poached egg, bacon and hollandaise sauce. It is usually served at breakfast/brunch.
We didn’t have any English muffins so we had to compromise with bagels instead. Here are the steps we took in order to create a tasty eggs benedict!
Ingredients (for one) :
- 3 tbsp white wine vinegar
- 2 eggs
- 1 plain bagel
- 1 batch hot hollandaise sauce
- 3 strips of bacon
- 1/2 sliced avocado
- 30g smoked salmon
- chopped chives
- Slice the bagel in half and toast
- Spread cream cheese on both halves of the bagel
- Place smoked salmon and sliced avocado on one and crispy bacon on the other
- Boil water in a pot and add the vinegar into the pot
- Break the eggs into a cup and place into the pot and cook for 2-3mins
- Place the eggs carefully on top of the avocado and bacon
- Pour the sauce over the eggs and add chives for the finishing touch!
